When not in the mating season, the male widowbird is a very nondescript “little brown job”. But when the mating season comes, it becomes one of the most spectacular birds in the park. It is amazing to see them doing their love dance, going up and down the tall grass, flying for short periods of time. I took this picture on the plains of the Southern shore, where I encountered this bird very regularly.
