I took this picture in Amneville zoo, near Metz, in France. The African plain, where the giraffes live also hosts zebra, waterbucks and crowned cranes. The zoo has built a restaurant up on a platform and you can be at eye level with the giraffes.
On that day, the giraffes were very close and I saw my chance to take an unusual shot. I used my 18mm lens as the giraffe was about half a metre away from my lens and added a touch of flash, just to make sure there was enough light on the giraffe's face.
