I waited several years before seeing a Pel's Fishing Owl. They are said to be common in Liwonde National Park, but despite going there on a regular basis, I seemed to miss them everytime. Then, in my last year in Malawi, my luck changed and during my last three trips to the Park, I saw them on each occasion. The best sighting was on my last trip as there was a juvenile bird in a big baobab tree, and we saw it during the afternoon drive, which made the picture easier to take, because of the light and the fact that these birds are active at night and resting during the day.
