Once the blue sharks are attracted by the chum slick, they get curious. They also particularly like the electric field produced by the camera and strobe. We had to make sure that the shark was staying before turning on the strobes. This female was really not bothered when I used the flash and came extremely close several times in the 20 minutes I swam with her. Such a rare event to be able to get that close to a shark in the open ocean!
Une fois que les requins bleus sont attirés par la trainée de sang dans l’eau, ils deviennent curieux. Ils aiment aussi beaucoup le champ électrique causé par mes deux gros flashs et l’appareil photo. J’ai dû attendre d’être sûr que le requin restait avant d’allumer les flashs. Cette femelle n’était absolument pas dérangée par les flashs et est venue très près plusieurs fois au cours des 20 minutes où j’ai nagé avec elle. C’est tellement rare de pouvoir approcher aussi près au milieu de l’océan !
